Elton John Signed “Honky Château” Album
A copy of Elton John’s fifth studio album, Honky Château, signed by Elton John in blue ballpoint pen. The album was released in May 1972 and was Elton John’s first to reach No. 1 in the US, marking the beginning of his international breakthrough. It includes iconic singles such as “Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going to Be a Long, Long Time)” and “Honky Cat.” The album comes with a note from the original owner, which reads: “Elton John has been a great Watford fan since he was a small child, and visits to Vicarage Road with his dad in the 1950s/60s were some of his best childhood memories. By 1970, I was also living near Watford and went to a number of home games to watch the club play. In and around late ’72 to early ’73, the local newspaper was reporting that Elton wanted to come back and watch Watford play, with a view to possibly investing money into the club. So, in early 1973, on a cold Saturday afternoon, I waited holding my Honky Château album near the players’/directors’ entrance. This album, with its leathery-style appearance, seemed the best one for him to sign. Elton arrived in a Rolls-Royce and wore an awful, long, orange-coloured, full-length ‘shaggy dog’ overcoat. Standing with around 30 or so other fans, generally holding out match programmes for him to sign, I held out the album, and he chose mine to sign. Since then, it has been in a prime position in my record collection. Ian Day” The album measures 31.7 x 31.5 cm The condition of the album is good + with some tape staining and wear
