John Lennon 1975 lost weekend Handwritten postcard
An original 1974 Apple/Capitol Records Goodnight, Vienna postcard on which John Lennon handwritten and signed a note to Jessie Ed Davis, who played guitar on John’s Walls and Bridges album. The card reads: “Dear Jessie, + Pattie + Billy Happy New Yr forgot what you said in yr letter. See ya soon – oh yes yr thin. Sorry yiz were all ill. Love John + May.” John has also added one of his signature face doodles. This postcard was written during John’s 18-month period from late 1973 to early 1975, during which he was separated from his wife, Yoko Ono—now commonly known as “The Lost Weekend.” During this time, Lennon was in a relationship with their personal assistant, May Pang, and lived primarily in Los Angeles and New York City. At the suggestion of Yoko Ono, who felt their marriage was under strain, May Pang became Lennon’s companion. Pang is often credited as a grounding influence, helping Lennon reconnect with his first son, Julian, and with his former bandmate, Paul McCartney. The postcard comes with an additional Certificate of Authenticity (COA) from Tracks. The postcard measures 17 × 12 cm. The condition of the postcard is very good, with a crease through the middle where it had been folded.
