This acetate was submitted as part of an effort to secure a recording contract for Blazey. The disc comes housed in its original mailing envelope and is accompanied by a printed copy of a letter from George Martin dated 7th August 1968, in which he expresses interest in hearing Blazey in person after listening to the recording. However, due to Martin's commitments to the latest Beatles album and an upcoming holiday, he suggests scheduling an audition in early October. A Letter from George Martin which was previously sent to Marty Horstman which Reads: “Dear Mr., Horstman, I must apologise for the delay in replying to your letter of June 26th. I have now had an opportunity to listen to your disc of Griff Blazey. I think he has a very pleasant voice, and I would like to hear him in the studio. At the moment I am working on a new Beatles LP, which leaves me no time for other projects. I am going on holiday in September but will be available at the beginning of October to hear Griff Blazey. I’m sorry for the delay and, of course, will understand if you've received other offers. However, if you're still interested, please contact me in the first week of October, and I’d be happy to arrange a studio audition. Yours sincerely, George Martin A.I.R. London Ltd” Following this letter, Griff Blazey auditioned at Abbey Road Studios for Wally Ridley and later returned for a second audition with George Martin himself, who even accompanied him on piano during the session. However, Blazey’s country-influenced vocal style did not fit the direction Martin was focused on at the time, and no deal was offered. Nonetheless, the correspondence and recordings from this brief chapter provide a fascinating glimpse into how talent was considered and evaluated by one of the most influential producers of the era.
