The postcard reads, “Dear Dennis Wow!” and is signed “John + Yoko, Julian + Kyoko,” with Julian and Kyoko drawing a red ballpoint love heart. The postcard is dated the 23rd of June 1969. Although intended for Derek Taylor, John humorously addressed the postcard to “Dennis Taylor.” The postcard originates from Derek Taylor’s personal collection. In June 1969, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, accompanied by their children Julian and Kyoko, visited Wales prior to a trip to Scotland. They stayed at the Corbett Arms Hotel in the seaside town of Tywyn. The postcard was issued to mark the forthcoming Investiture of the Prince of Wales on 1 July 1969. John also sent the same postcard to Ringo Starr; it is illustrated in Postcards from the Boys, Genesis Publications, 2004. Derek Taylor was a journalist, author, and record producer, best known as the press officer for The Beatles. In early 1964, while working for the Daily Express and ghost-writing a column for George Harrison, Taylor was hired by Brian Epstein as The Beatles’ publicist. He accompanied the group on their first U.S. tour later that summer. In 1965, Taylor moved to the United States and established his own public relations company, working with artists such as The Beach Boys and The Byrds. In early 1968, he returned to England to serve as press officer for the newly formed Apple Corps. He left the company in late 1970 following The Beatles’ breakup and subsequently joined WEA. After several years, he returned to the U.S., becoming a vice president at Warner Bros. Records. Taylor’s career came full circle in the early 1990s when he rejoined Apple, working on projects including The Beatles Anthology.
